Just a day after slipping that “30 Rock” will come to an end in 2012 — conveniently timed to Tina Fey’s pregnancy announcement — Alec Baldwin is backpedaling.
The actor, who’s no stranger to sticking the proverbial foot in the mouth, has made it clear that he would depart at the end of Season 6 , but up until a recent chat with New York Magazine, it seemed the series would go on without him.
And apparently he hopes it will. Taking to his Huffington Post column, the celebrity equivalent to a LiveJournal, Baldwin reveals that he wants the show to go on forever:
I want to take the opportunity to state that although my days on network TV may be numbered, I hope 30 Rock goes on forever. Or at least as long as everyone involved desires.
Next year hopefully won’t be the last. Kenneth can run the network. Jenna will get her own talk show. Tracy will become Mayor of New York. Then resign to go raise exotic reptiles. And Lemon will go do…. just about anything she sets her mind to.
Here’s to five more seasons.
Five could be pushing it, especially without Jack Donaghy. But with the announcement of a Steve Carell replacement on “The Office” imminent, we should soon be able to shift our focus to finding somebody for “30 Rock.” (Hmm… Steve Carell will be free?)
