Most celebs are used to slanderous and mostly untrue claims about themselves being slapped across the cover of tabloids these days. But when ‘Star’ Magazine suggested that Katie Holmes had a drug problem, she decided to take action.
]]>According to The Hollywood Reporter, Holmes reached a settlement with publishers American Media Inc. and even got them to say they’re sorry. No small feat! Though the monetary terms of the settlement are confidential, American Media will be making a “substantial donation” on behalf of Mrs. Tom Cruise to the Dizzy Feet Foundation, a non-profit organization which improves and increases access to dance education for underprivileged children in the United States. Additionally, the company claims that it “did not intend to suggest that Ms. Holmes was a drug addict or was undergoing treatment for drug addiction.” So… that’s that. “I’m pleased that this lawsuit could be resolved amicably and accept American Media’s apology,” Holmes states. “With this dispute out of the way, I look forward to once again focusing my attention on my family and career.” “American Media did the right thing by apologizing to Katie,” adds Holmes’ attorney. “But this is a story that should never have been published in the first place. Her lawsuit should serve as a lesson to other tabloids that if they print false and defamatory stories about Katie, she will stand up for her legal rights.” Lesson learned: Don’t mess with Holmes!
