manny ramirez gi Manny Ramirez retires from MLB following reported positive drug testTime to retire those Ramirez jerseys, as the MLB player has opted for retirement rather than a 100-game suspension.

]]>Manny Ramirez reportedly tested positive for a
performance-enhancing drug during spring training, according to The New
York Times. The Tampa Bay Rays slugger was only recently informed of the
positive test results, and is uninterested in following through with
the MLB’s Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

A statement from the commissioner’s office reads:

“Rather than continue with the process under the Program, Ramirez has
informed the MLB that he is retiring as an active player.”

This isn’t the first time Ramirez has had a run-in with performance enhancers. He
was among the many players that tested positive back in 2003, and was
suspended in 2009 when his urine sample showed elevated testosterone

“We are obviously surprised and disappointed by this news,” the Rays
said in a statement. “We will have no further comment on this matter,
and our fans and organization will carry on.”
