The goodbye extravaganza for “The Oprah Winfrey Show” is going to be a big event. Like, basketball-arena big.
The taping of “Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular” will take place not at Winfrey’s studio (capacity a few hundred) but at Chicago’s United Center, home of the Bulls and Blackhawks (capacity 20,000 or so). It’s scheduled to tape on May 17 and will air May 23 and 24; the guest list is still a secret, even to Oprah herself.
“As most of our viewers know, being surprised is not one of Oprah’s favorite things,” “Oprah Winfrey Show” executive producer Sheri Salata says. “In the spirit of our farewell season, she is making a rare exception and we intend to make the most of that opportunity. It will be something to see!”
You can register for free tickets to the “Farewell Spectacular” on Oprah.com starting at 11 a.m. ET (10 Central time) Friday (April 29). Team Oprah will determine who gets tickets via random selection.
The final “Oprah Winfrey Show” is scheduled to air May 25.
