“Dancing With the Stars” front-runner and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward is taking the classy route after police handcuffed him at gunpoint at a Los Angeles gas station early May 5.
Pittsburgh’s WTAE reports Ward and a female companion were pulled from the vehicle as it had been reported as stolen.
So why was he behind the wheel of a hot car? It’s owner, who was driving, had reported it stolen on April 19 — when she had actually just forgotten where she parked it. Upon recovering the car, she failed to notify police.
Ward quickly jumped on facebook to tell fans it wasn’t a big deal. Manager Andrew Ree issued the following statement: “It was a misunderstanding. The police were just doing their jobs. Apologies were made, and Hines was very cooperative and understanding. He is fine and it’s over.”
Obviously stolen plates are reason for police intervention, but the introduction of handcuffs and guns is always disconcerting.
