Rainn Wilson is cautiously optimistic about the future of “The Office” without Steve Carell. The actor talked with Zap2it on Monday (May 2) while promoting the indie film “Hesher” about what Season 8 of the series will look like without Michael Scott.
Since Wilson’s character, Dwight, was passed over for Will Ferrell‘s DeAngelo Vickers, we know he won’t be stepping into Michael Scott’s shoes. But, says Wilson, Dwight does get to flex his control-freak muscles at least one more time.
“I’ll say this,” says Wilson. “Dwight gets to be in charge for one episode before the end of this season.”
When we asked if he would again paint Michael’s (former) office black, Wilson said “No, but very close.”
Wilson also talked about the high-profile guest stars still set to drop in on Dunder Mifflin before the end of the season.
“It was amazing working with James Spader,” Wilson says. “He’s someone who has been a mentor of mine.”
As for Jim Carrey, Wilson says the guy showed up on set with a mohawk, forcing producers to put his character in a hat. We’re not sure we believe him, but we’ll be watching. The guest star-packed “Office” finale airs May 19.
