sharon osbourne agt 'America's Got Talent's' Sharon Osbourne: Michael Grimm, Jackie Evancho 'set the bar very high'“America’s Got Talent” has kicked off to huge ratings for Season 6. Judge Sharon Osbourne spoke with the press about the show and how last year’s winner Michael Grimm and runner-up Jackie Evancho have really set the bar high for this season.

“Their level of professionalism was very, very high,” says Osbourne, of Michael and Jackie. “So you don’t want

to go down from that level, you want to go up from that level. So yes, they set the bar very high.”

Sharon also says she’s a harder judge this year than she has been in years past.

“I think probably I am definitely harder than I’ve been in previous

years. I’m actually comfortable in that position of being a little more

judgmental and not so tolerant and really making it about the talent

and not about somebody’s life story,” says Osbourne.

But on the other hand, she doesn’t want to be completely soul-crushing to the people who aren’t good enough to advance.

“Everybody’s got a dream and you don’t want to destroy somebody’s dream.

You don’t want to humiliate them publicly,” says Osbourne. “But at the same time, you

don’t want to give somebody false hope. But you don’t want to destroy

somebody either. Dreams keep a lot of people going and you try not to

destroy people at that point.”

Osbourne also says that she loved what Reese Witherspoon said at the MTV Movie Awards, telling people you don’t have to be successful by making a sex tape or going on a reality show.

“It’s really about talent and it’s about

knowing your craft and learning your craft and determination. I admire

her so much,” says Osbourne. “When she gave her speech, I was like, ‘Right on.’ It’s all

about talent. A lot of people might make it through reality shows in

the short term … but ultimately, you have a short career. It doesn’t

last long. You have your five minutes, as Andy Warhol would say.”

And finally, she laughs a bit when asked how she manages to juggle all her responsibilities.

“You think you can handle it all and you can’t. I’m going to have to

review my next year because I definitely packed it too tight this year,” says Osbourne.

“America’s Got Talent” airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. and Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
