Among the Republican presidential contenders who gathered for a televised debate in New Hampshire Monday, Rep. Michele Bachmann was the only one who hadn’t officially announced herself as a candidate.
Bachmann took care of that pretty early in the CNN broadcast.
I filed today my paperwork to seek the office of the presidency of the United States … and I’ll very soon be making my formal announcement,” Bachmann told moderator John King. “I wanted you to be the first to know.”
The third-term congresswoman and Tea Party favorite had reportedly been considering a presidential run for several months. And whatever you think of her politics, she knows how to use the media: Debates this early in the campaign cycle don’t usually make a ton of news (certainly not on pop-culture sites like this one), but Bachmann made sure this one did.
Here’s the video of Bachmann’s announcement. (CNN, which aired the debate, inexplicably didn’t have the clip at the time of this post, so thanks to Mediaite.)
