Deadline reports NBC sister network Syfy is currently in talks to resuscitate it as a miniseries — and possibly add on another season if the mini performs well.
There’s still a lot to consider for the network and producers at Universal Media Studios. A move to Syfy would greatly decrease the budget, and every day the show stays dead, the more cast members enter commitments to other opportunities.
Plot-wise, the series does have a lot of loose ends to tie. The Season 1 finale explained what “the event” was, carefully mentioning that it hasn’t actually happened yet. But there’s a more important thing to consider here: Is this really the felled show from the last season we want to see get a pardon from the proverbial governor?
“The Event” never really rocked in the ratings, and though it went out on a comparatively high note, it still only averaged 4.57 million viewers and a 1.5 in the adults 18-49 demo.
And was “The Event” ever actually that… good? Even by sci-fi standards, the story seemed frazzled and contrived. We can think of a handful of stronger, better performing canceled series — just not ones that would fit on Syfy.
