We truly feel for Chaka Khan who is in hot water with a New Jersey landlord for an alleged failure to pay rent.
Maryse Selit tells the National Enquirer that Khan and her sister/manager Tammy MCCrary agreed to rent a mansion in the town of Watchung for two weeks in June, but says the pair left after only one week and didn’t pay the agreed upon rent.
“Chaka and her entourage stayed only one week, but I’m stuck for two,” says Selit. “I told them I had someone who was willing to pay rent for the entire two weeks. I know I can sue them, but I was trying to settle this the easiest way possible. Now they’re acting like I don’t exist.”
We’re guessing that won’t last for long now that she’s taken her story public. But, as of this writing, camp Khan has yet to make a statement.
On July 2, Khan performed at the Essence Music Festival and, in between singing her big hits (“I Feel For You,” “Through the Fire”) the singer opened up about her past addiction problems.
“This next song is a song I wrote but I don’t remember writing it because I was high,” Khan said before singing ‘Trouble Little Angel.’ “That was then, this is now, I’m seven years clean.”
