Charlie Sheen‘s next TV deal is done. Mostly.
Lionsgate announced Monday (July 18) that it has closed a deal with Sheen to star in “Anger Management,” a sitcom loosely based on the 2003 Adam Sandler-Jack Nicholson movie. (Reports of a deal started circulating a couple weeks ago.) He’ll also have a “significant ownership” stake in the show.
“I chose ‘Anger Management’ because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept,” Sheen says in a statement. “It also provides me with real ownership in the series, a certain amount of creative control and the chance to be back in business with one of my favorite movie producers of all time, Joe Roth.”
Says Roth: “Who better than Charlie Sheen to tackle ‘Anger Management’? With Charlie’s incredible talent and comedic gifts, he remains the leading man of TV sitcoms. I’m excited to collaborate with him once again.”
Roth, whose Revolution Studios produced the “Anger Management” movie, also worked with Sheen on “Major League,” “Young Guns” and “The Three Musketeers.”
What the show doesn’t have yet is a place to call home. Debmar-Mercury, which is owned by Lionsgate and distributes Tyler Perry‘s sitcoms and “South Park,” among other shows, in syndication, will distribute the show. There’s also no writer attached.
