Children of the ’80s, get ready for another blast from the past. On Thursday (July 21) at Comic-Con, Relativity Media confirmed that they will be adapting “Voltron: Defender of the Universe” — the 1984 animated series — into a feature film.
“Voltron” — kind of like “Transformers” — capitalized on the mid-’80s obsession with robots and saving the universe.
From the press release:
Five young warriors are responsible for the future of the galaxy when they become pilots of a battalion of ultra-high-tech Robot Lions, powerful vessels with the ability to join together to form a fearsome mega-weapon known as “Voltron.”
No word yet on a release date or potential stars. But since Shia LaBeouf seems to think he won’t be doing any more “Transformers” movies, maybe he’d be interested in a little robot lion swashbuckling?
