Jesse James may be a terrible husband and a not-so-great boyfriend, but by all accounts he seems to be doing okay in the dad department. On Wednesday, the 42-year-old motorcycle man won full custody of his 7-year-old daughter Sunny after a long and drawn-out custody battle.
It’s not the first time that James and his ex, Janine Lindemulder, have been in court over their daughter. James and then-wife Sandra Bullock won custody of Sunny in 2009, but when the pair very publicly divorced in 2010, Lindemulder petitioned the court for custody again, and won joint legal custody while James maintained physical custody.
Now, full legal custody has been returned to James. If Lindemulder continues to live in California, she will be allowed occasional monitored visits with her daughter. However, if she chooses to relocate to Austin, Texas, where James and Sunny reside, Lindemulder will be required to undergo inpatient rehab.
“Jesse feels vindicated,” James’ attorney tells People Magazine. “This is what he’s been claiming all along, that Janine needs therapy.”
