Tina Brown clearly isn’t trying to fly under the radar since taking over editor in chief duties at Newsweek. A few weeks on the heels of that inarguably tasteless Zombie Princess Diana feature, the magazine has another cover causing a stir.
Tea Party leader and presidential hopeful Michele Bachman appears on the latest issue, sporting a facial expression that can only be described as a combination of Steve Carell on the “40-year-old Virgin” poster and Gollum. Sexism and partisanship are just some of the allegations coming out after the release of the unflattering image, but Brown disagrees.
“Michele Bachmann’s intensity is galvanizing voters in Iowa right now,” the editor explains on Twitter, “and Newsweek’s cover captures that.”
Signing yourself up for a profile and pictorial obviously doesn’t guarantee a flattering portrayal, nor should it, but doesn’t the photo strike you as a little spiteful?
