Shaken by the tragic stage collapse before their Indiana State Fair concert on Saturday night which killed four people and injured many others, Sugarland and Sara Bareilles have canceled a similar appearance scheduled for Sunday at the Iowa State Fair.
“I’m still thinking of all those affected from last night’s stage collapse. My heart is here in Indiana,” Bareilles wrote on Twitter. “Our apologies and gratitude to the people of Iowa for understanding our
absence tonight from the scheduled show. We’ll hope to see you soon.”
The show will not be rescheduled, according to the Iowa State Fair website. “Aside from coping with the magnitude of the accident, the ongoing investigation prevents the band from getting what may remain of their stage equipment,” they say in a statement.
According to the Indianapolis Star, the stage collapsed 30 minutes after Bareilles finished her set, just before Sugarland was due to take the stage. The high winds blew the structure down into the crowds, where four people died and dozens more were injured. Emergency crews and hundreds of fans quickly worked to free those who were trapped. The four people who passed away died on the scene and were not transported to the hospital; a coroner came to the fairgrounds.
