The 2011-12 TV season doesn’t start for another couple of weeks, but pilot deals for the following season are already being cut.
The latest one involves two veteran producers — Bill Lawrence (“Cougar Town,” “Scrubs,” “Spin City”) and Greg Malins (“Better With You,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Friends”) — teaming up for a comedy at CBS. The network has committed to producing a pilot, Deadline reports.
As for what CBS will get, we don’t know. Malins and Lawrence are saying only that it’s a multi-camera workplace comedy. They’ll co-write the script and executive produce with Jeff Ingold, the head of Lawrence’s production company, Doozer.
It’s the first pilot deal for Lawrence since he set up shop at Warner Bros. TV after a long stint at ABC Studios. Malins is also based at WB.
Both have other things to keep them occupied while they’re putting the CBS project together: Lawrence is working on Season 3 of “Cougar Town,” which will debut on ABC later in the season, while Malins is a consulting producer on CBS’ new comedy “2 Broke Girls.”
