In its continuing quest to find a formula that attracts viewers, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is considering a big-name comedian host for the 2012 Oscar broadcast: Eddie Murphy.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Murphy has emerged as a frontrunner in the host race, with show-runners hoping he’s able to return the show to its former glory.
Not much of a surprise considering the belly flop made by 2011 co-host James Franco. (And even though Anne Hathaway did a much better job than him, she just didn’t have the personality to pull the show together and keep viewers riveted.)
Other names under consideration, reports the LAT, are Jerry Seinfeld and veteran Billy Crystal.
