“Mayhem” struck Target on Tuesday (Sept. 13) when Target launched a 400 piece collection of Italian design house Missoni’s pieces for a fraction of their usual luxe cost.
Prices for the specially-designed items ranged from $2.99 for stationary to $599 for patio furniture.
The Target website crashed several times on Tuesday (as of this writing, it was down again), reports the Associated Press, while hundreds of shoppers lined up outside several of the retailer’s brick-and-mortar locations across the country hoping to get one of the coveted items.
“This was Missoni mayhem,” Joshua Thomas, a Target spokesman, tells the AP. “This is unprecedented.”
This isn’t Target’s first partnership with a hot design house. In 2010, they paired with Liberty of London and sold out the line of 300 items in a matter of days.
