Vesta Williams, singer of 1980s hits “Congratulations” and “Sweet, Sweet Love” has passed away, E! reports. The Los Angeles Police Department has no comment regarding the news that she passed away at age 53 in an LA hotel room.
Her cause of death is unknown at the moment.
Famous friends have taken to Twitter to express their grief over her loss. “R.I.P. Ms. Vesta Williams. What a tremendous talent + great soul! Cuz as long as I can breathe, you’ll always be the one for me,” tweeted Kimora Lee Simmons, quoting Vesta’s song.
“I am so deeply saddened at the passing of my diva friend Vesta Williams. RIP Vesta,” wrote Sheryl Lee Ralph.
Williams’ last tweet was on Monday, when she told a fan, “Loving you back Stephanie, now and always. :)”
