The “Die Hard” franchise isn’t dead. Far from it, actually.
Bruce Willis will reprise his role as John McClane in the fifth iteration of the action series Fox film CEO Tom Rothman announced Wednesday (Oct. 12). During an appearance on Jim Rome’s radio show, Rothman announced the movie will be called “A Good Day to Die Hard” and is scheduled for release on February 14, 2013.
McClane will have a new sidekick in the film, his son John McClane Jr.
“The basic outline of the story is that (McClane) ends up having to go to Russia to bail what he thinks is his miscreant son out of trouble over there. But it turns out that things are not what they appear,” Rothman says.
He equated the relationship difficulties between father and son to the dynamic in the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie film “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.“
“They have to resolve (their problems) while a bunch of bad a** guys are shooting at them,” Rothman adds.
The series first began in 1988 and has grossed $1.1 billion worldwide.
