We’re not sure how this happened, but somehow in the crush of news that hit the Web on Thursday (Oct. 20), photos of dead ousted Libyan leader Moamar Gadhafi somehow got confused with Carlos Santana — who, to our eyes, resembles the dictator about as much as he resembles George W. Bush, which is to say, not much.
But, the Internet being what it is, “news” quickly spread that Santana had died. Here in the Zap2it offices, we’re not sure how video of the dictator’s body chilling out in a meat locker could possibly be mistaken for the legendary guitarist — who is still very much alive and not in the habit of hanging out in insurgent-infested areas of the world.
“R.I.P. Carlos Santana” became a trending term on Twitter and many photos, like the one below found by The Washington Post, were forwarded around.
What do you think? Is there enough of a resemblance to account for the confusion?
