Zap2it spoke with “Pretty Little Liars” executive producer Marlene King about the Halloween prequel episode that airs Wednesday night (Oct. 19) to kick off ABC Family’s 13 nights of Halloween. We can only share a few of the juicy tidbits before the episode airs, but check back after you’ve watched it for some more dish on the Halloween dirt.
Marlene tells us that doing a Halloween episode just seemed logical for a show like “Pretty Little Liars,” but due to their normal airing schedule (summer and winter/early spring), it was never going to coincide. So they decided to do a special one just for the spooky holiday.
“The producers and the network all agreed that it would be so organic to ‘Pretty Little Liars’ to do a spooky Halloween episode. We decided too it’s sort of our thank you to the fans. It’s candy, the whole episode,” says King.
It sure is candy for the fans. We’ve seen it! It’s called “The First Secret” and while we can’t reveal what that means exactly, King does tease, “It’s the first secret … It’s a lot of first secrets for the girls.”
Including Alison. She’s actually the main character of the prequel and Sasha Pieterse tells us, “It’s all from Alison’s point of view. All the flashbacks so far have been from
the girls’ point of view. This is from Alison’s point of view, so there are even
scenes with Alison alone, which is something we’ve never had before.”
Part of the Alison storyline in the prequel involves a menacing figure in a creepy mask, pictured at the right. Marlene King tells us that you can own the mask, if you really want to.
“That mask is available to buy, but the costume was completely designed around that mask by Mandi Line, the costume designer. We called it like the zombie babydoll stalker,” says King.
That sounds about right.
The “Pretty Little Liars” Halloween prequel “The First Secret” is revealed Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
