Coroners are unwilling to assign a cause of death based on the autopsy of rapper Heavy D, who died suddenly on Nov. 8 at the age of 44. A spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office tells the L.A. Times it could take several weeks to confirm what led to the rapper/actor’s death while they await toxicology reports.
Heavy D reportedly started having breathing problems at his Beverly Hills condo after a shopping trip. He collapsed and, although he was still alive when police arrived at his condo, they were unable to revive him.
A spokesman for the department last week said no illegal drugs were found at Heavy D’s home, but he had been taking a cough medication prescribed by a doctor.
A memorial for the rapper is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17 in New York, with a private funeral to follow the next day. P. Diddy and Rev. Al Sharpton are among attendees expected to give a eulogy, reports SPIN.com.
“He was a wonderful human being, who inspired and paved the way for a hip hop generation,” said Diddy via a statement. “We were like brothers — I will miss him more than words can express.”
