If you were hoping to score a Rocawear Occupy Wall Street t-shirt, you’ve missed your chance. The company — owned by rap mogul Jay-Z — has pulled the shirts from its online store, reports TMZ, in the wake of criticism about the profits. Apparently, 100 percent of the profits would have gone to Rocawear and Jay-Z, with no percentage being donated to the cause they were designed to promote.
Before the shirts were pulled, TMZ got this primo quote from an individual who identifies himself only as “Grim” and is described as one of the leaders of the OWS movement:
“Jay-Z, as talented as he is, has the political sensibility of a hood rat and is a scrotum. To attempt to profit off of the first important social moment of 50 years with an overpriced piece of cotton is an insult to the fight for economic civil rights known as #occupywallstreet.”
Right on, brother.
Jay-Z had been photographed earlier in the week at the OWS protests wearing one of the shirts, which read “Occupy All Streets.”
Neither Jay-Z nor Rocawear has issued an official statement.
