Ah, the holidays. Time for turkey, mistletoe, Santa Claus and a larger-than-life Lady Gaga spider that appears poised to strike. But to see that last item, holiday revelers will need to travel to New York where Gaga teamed up with Barneys New York to create the Gaga themed Lady Gaga’s Workshop.
Described by a Washington Post writer as a cross between Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Beetlejuice,” the special store/exhibit which opened Monday (Nov. 21) evening features window displays made entirely of wig hair, giant sculptures — like that Gaga spider — and plenty of monster-themed tchotchkes to fill Christmas stockings — especially if you happen to also buy Gaga’s stiletto-shaped stockings ($65).
Can’t make it to New York? Fear not — most of the collection is available online at gagasworkshop.com. Get your little monsters a Gaga Little Monster Set ($95) ….. and what is sure to be this year’s Cabbage Patch Doll, the inscrutable Egg Spin Toy (above, $35). Fear not, mom and dad — you can get Gaga’d up yourself with the Classic Motorcycle Jacket ($625) and Military Hat ($350) or, if you’re on a budget, a Gaga logo baseball style raglan tee ($38).
Deck your halls with the Avante Garde Boot Stocking ($65) — it looks a lot like the lobster shoe Gaga threw on stage when she visited “So You Think You Can Dance” earlier this year. Or, go subtle with the Gaga Ornament — basically a hand-blown glass painted motorcycle with Gaga’s head where the handlebars would normally be ($25). Looking for a new take on the Menorah? Why not buy nine Gaga bust candles (at right, $395 each) to celebrate this year’s Hanukkah?
Twenty-five percent of sales proceeds will go to Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.
