“America’s Got Talent” will have to look for a new judge in addition to new stars for its coming season.
“I’m leaving ‘America’s Got Talent’ after 6 wonderful years,” Morgan says via Twitter. “Turned out that juggling’s harder than it looks, so I’m going to focus on CNN. Big thanks to NBC, [producer] Fremantle, and of course, my friend Simon Cowell [who executive produces ‘AGT’] for giving me such a great opportunity. It’s been a blast.”
Morgan also jokingly tweeted “congratulations” to “AGT” host Nick Cannon and fellow judges Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne — “you don’t have to put up with me anymore!”
He also announced his departure on Wednesday’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” — watch the video here.
“America’s Got Talent” began its audition process for next summer’s run in October. The open casting calls continue into February, and the show won’t return until at least May, so NBC has some time to find a replacement.
