On Thursday (Dec. 15), TMZ reported that veteran newswoman and “The View” doyenne Barbara Walters was planning to retire in 2012. But, according to the show’s official website, Walters isn’t going anywhere.
TMZ apparently ran with the story when a “source” allegedly overheard Walters telling President Obama, “I need one more interview with you because I’m retiring next year.” Walter was at the White House interviewing the president for an upcoming special.
But, according to Jeffrey Schneider, SVP of ABC News Communications — a guy in a position to know about this sort of thing, TMZ’s story is bogus:
“Barbara has joked that she is retiring every year since the Clinton Administration. Anyone who just did a day trip to Syria, 90-minute prime time special and interview with the President and First Lady hardly sounds like someone retiring from anything.”
“So there you have it!,” reads “The View’s” blog post, “Disregard the rumors — our Barbara is here to stay!”
