When the media is abuzz with news about how much Kim Kardashian spent on her latest jewelry purchase, it’s nice to take a break and talk about the efforts people are putting forth to do some good in the universe.
Mozilla Firefox has issued a challenge to Crowdrise celebrity fundraisers — first, the company donated $5,000 to several celebrity-backed charities. Now, those celebrities are racing to see who can raise the most cash for their respective charity before January 11. The person who raises the most gets an additional $25,000 from Mozilla.
So who’s in the challenge?
Leading the pack is Jason Bateman, who is raising money for his favorite cause, City Year. City Year is a team of over 1500 young people looking to make a positive impact on their peers and youths in their areas via tutoring, mentoring, and serving as role models. Bateman is even giving away a trip to the “Arrested Development” set for one lucky donator.
Not far behind him is our “One Tree Hill” fave Sophia Bush, in support of F-Cancer. You’ll remember that she boldly shared her awkward parental sex talk memories in a F-Cancer campaign this summer. Now, she’s doing even more talking — anyone who donates or raises $2500 for her campaign will get a personal phone call from Bush. (Hey, “One Tree Hill” fans, it’s a great time for a holiday bake sale for a good cause!)
There are many more celebs working to make a difference. Paul Rudd is supporting a shelter for disabled animals (blind puppies, you guys, c’mon). Will Ferrell is giving out sexy sunscreen to help cancer survivors go to college. Jonah Hill will record a voicemail message for a lucky fan who helps support his anti-Malaria initiative. In the spirit of the holidays, Zooey Deschanel is giving away a signed “Elf” DVD to help exonerate innocent people in prison. The list goes on and on!
Support your favorite celeb or your favorite cause by donating via Crowdrise before January 11.
