Beyond the likely very large overlapping fan bases, though, Swift’s “Safe and Sound” (featuring the Civil Wars) is really good in its own right. It also seems like a great fit with the fairly dark tone of the movie and book series.
“Safe and Sound” has a spare, minor-key acoustic arrangement that’s far removed from the poppier tunes Swift is known for and closer to what the Civil Wars do. She sings in a breathy, halting voice that suits her quite well.
Despite the attachment to a movie that’s likely to draw legions of teenagers come March, “Safe and Sound” feels like one of the most grown-up songs Swift has ever done. Take a listen for yourself:
