And in the battle of “Devil” versus “Ghost,” the devil appears to have won. After three weeks ruling the box office roost, “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” was knocked off by “The Devil Inside.“
The scary movie brought in an estimated $15 million on Friday (Jan. 6) and is on pace for a $30 million opening weekend, according to Deadline. This is quite the coup considering Box Office Mojo says the film had a production budget of only $1 million.
“Mission Impossible” continues to deliver impressive numbers, with a Friday take of just under $6 million. This puts it on pace for a likely weekend take of $19 million. If these numbers hold true, the film will have earned $170 million in just four weeks.
Rounding out the top five were “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” with $4.3 million, “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” at $3.3M and “War Horse” with $2.7 million.
