There’s no way the movie “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” wouldn’t strike a nerve with New Yorkers — after all, it features a young boy who tries to make sense of his father’s death in the World Trade Center on September 11 — but some tactlessly placed ads are causing controversy in the Big Apple.
Apparently, video ads featuring the burning Twin Towers are running at subway stops very close to where the buildings originally stood, much to the chagrin of survivors of the attacks.
“We lost 10 guys that day,” a firefighter from Ladder 9
in the East Village tells the New York Post. “I won’t go see it. I saw the ad last night. I just
can’t. People who live and work around here would be offended by those
ads. That happened right here.”
For its part, Warner Bros., the studio behind the movie, apologized for the insensitivity and tells the Post that it will pull the ads.
