When Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) said goodbye to her colleagues on Wednesday (Jan. 25), many of them were brought to tears. None so publicly as John Boehner. It was hardly surprising.
Speaker Boehner had to fight to hold back tears during his first address with a GOP House majority, frequently leaks water from the eyes at public events and sobbed as he accepted the gavel from former Speaker Nancy Peolsi.
Still, after what Giffords has been through, being shot in the head and her remarkable recovery, we think a stone would be hard-pressed not to sniffle a bit. The waterworks started as Giffords made her way to the Speaker’s chair to submit her resignation letter. She stumbled a little getting up to the chair. Boehner helped steady her and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He took her letter, squeezed her hand and let is fly. Check out the video below.
