As we reported Wednesday (Jan. 18), Merle Haggard was admitted to a Georgia hospital after cancelling a concert in Columbus, Ga., just seven minutes before he was scheduled to take the stage.
The 74-year-old country legend is undergoing treatment for pneumonia, according to publicist Tresa Redburn, who tells the Associated Press she spoke to Haggard by phone Wednesday.
The singer since canceled the remainder of his January tour dates. Haggard’s tour manager, Frank Mull, tells the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer that the singer has been under the weather since leaving his home in northern California last week.
“He thought he was well enough to work and he did work three dates, and he got progressively worse,” Mull tells Rolling Stone.
