Anyone who’s seen “Bridesmaids” is hardly surprised by Melissa McCarthy‘s Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination. McCarthy’s Megan was one of the highlights of an incredibly funny film. She collected puppies, outed an air marshal and did things in a sink that you can’t describe without squirming. As brilliant as her performance was and after all the talk about a sequel based on her character, McCarthy still didn’t think she’d get a nod.
McCarthy tells EW, “I didn’t get up or anything. I just did not expect that. At all! Hopefully I’m not nuts.” We’re thrilled for her, and for her fellow “Bridesmaids” nominees as well. Co-star Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo were nominated for Best Original
Screenplay. “Annie! Oh god, I have to talk to her!” McCarthy says.
“Kristen and Annie sat down and wrote it and rewrote it and tweaked it
and made those characters. The whole thing – that’s from their two
talented and weird brains. I’m so happy!”
So, what is the Oscar nominee going to do to celebrate? “I have to go to work in an hour,” the “Mike & Molly” star says. “I have to shoot today. But
that’s not a bad thing — I love my job. Then I have a show tomorrow. At
some point today, I’m having champagne dammit!” As you should, Melissa! Cheers!
