Celebrity chef Paula Deen managed to keep her Type 2 diabetes under wraps for three years, but she apparently has another troubling health problem that hasn’t gotten as much attention yet: High blood pressure.
“You have another secret, don’t you? You have high blood pressure,” Oz allegedly asks in the segment.
Deen’s publicist jumped in and protested that Deen hadn’t agreed to discuss it or signed a consent form, saying, “You can’t air that.”
The segment was re-taped without any mention of Deen’s high blood pressure, although she did mention the condition in a 2007 interview with the Orange County Register.
“Yesterday was so bad,” she says in the 2007 interview. “I started off the day with a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit from Hardee’s. For lunch, I had a fabulous chocolate-stuffed, chocolate-covered eclair that I made for the show. And for dinner, I had fried fish and fried shrimp from Captain D’s. Now is that horrible or what?”
In October 20111, Deen also admitted to Dr. Oz that she’s a hardcore smoker.
What do you think? Is it time for Deen to finally admit that her food choices — and recipes that she foists on an adoring public — can have dangerous health consequences?
