The People’s Choice Awards isn’t exactly on the same level as the Oscars — or even the Golden Globes (coming up Sunday, Jan. 15), or okay, the MTV Movie Awards or, umm, the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards — when it comes to fashion statements. Still, there’s a red carpet and stars walk it in what they think are entirely acceptable ensembles.
Sometimes they’re right — as is the case with our picks for best dressed, including Lea Michele, Kelly Osbourne and the adorable 14-year-old Chloe Grace Moretz, who looked both age appropriate and subtly hip. We included “Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence, who truly wowed in her purple Viktor & Rolf dress — we think it was a totally spot-on look for the tribute from District 12. Also shining on the red carpet: “Cougar Town’s” Busy Phillips in royal blue.
But, where there is light there is dark. And we’d be remiss in our duties if we didn’t single out some of the evening’s worst-dressed celebs. We’re truly sorry, Demi Lovato, for piling on — but the bi-level red gown you rocked on stage only added a little more heat to your hot mess of a performance. And Terrence Howard — sure it’s only People’s Choice, but jeans — really? We wrote an entire post about Ginnifer Goodwin’s “Pepto Princess” look. And both Ashley Greene Whitney Cummings went way too far — Ashley with leather and lace and Whitney with the green theme.
The one consolation: It’s the beginning of awards season and there’s nowhere to go but up.
