Representative Barney Frank, 71, of Massachusetts has announced that he will marry his longtime partner, Jim Ready, 42, of Ogunquit, Maine. The two men have been together since 2007. Harry Gural, a spokesman for the congressman, says the wedding will be in Frank’s home state of Massachusetts, but no date has yet been set.
Frank is retiring from Congress after this year. He’s held his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1980 and was one of the first public federal figures to come out of the closet.
Unfortunately, due to the Defense of Marriage Act, while Frank and Ready’s marriage will be recognized by the state of Massachusetts, it does not have been recognized by any other states where gay marriage is not yet legal.
But congratulations to Frank and Ready nonetheless.
