When Star Jones abruptly left “The View” in 2006, no one expected to ever see her within 5-feet of doyenne Barbara Walters again. But time apparently heals all wounds because on Wednesday (Jan. 25), Walters announced that Jones will appear on the program on Feb. 22 to talk about heart disease.
Both Walters and Jones underwent open heart surgery in 2010 to repair faulty heart valves.
“Star and I have been heart-to-heart now for many years,” Walters said. “We’ve had lunches together and discussions together … we had open heart surgery within months of each other. So we are very happy to have her on, and it will be a nice day for all of us to see her.”
Jones surprised Walters and the rest of her “View” co-hosts in 2006 when she announced during a live show that she would not be renewing her contract with the show. Walters’ reaction was to forbid Jones from returning the next day and, until now, her name hasn’t been mentioned on the show. Jones was replaced by Sherri Shepherd.
In her 2008 autobiography “Audition,” Walters wrote that Jones had asked her “View” co-stars to lie about her weight-loss surgery.
After leaving “The View,” Jones launched her own short-lived talk show on truTV. She also appeared on the 4th season of “Celebrity Apprentice.”
