“Boardwalk Empire” has cast a new foil for Nucky Thompson in its third season.
Bobby Cannavale, soon to be seen on Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie,” will then jump to HBO as a regular on “Empire.” He’ll play a character named Gyp Rosetti, who challenges Nucky’s (Steve Buscemi) control over the bootlegging business in Atlantic City.
The show will mark the second time Cannavale and Buscemi have worked together. They previously co-starred in the 2005 indie movie “Romance & Cigarettes.”
“Boardwalk Empire” creator Terence Winter has said the new season will jump ahead in time about 16 months, putting it at the beginning of 1923.
Cannavale’s run on “Nurse Jackie” begins with the season premiere on April 8. “Boardwalk Empire” will return in the fall.
