While his team, the New York Knicks, prepared to host the Utah Jazz at Madison Square Garden, power forward Amare Stoudemire was dealing with a personal tragedy at home. Stoudemire missed the game to head to Florida after his brother’s sudden death.
35-year-old Hazell Stoudemire was in a car accident when the car he was driving rear-ended a tractor trailer early Monday morning. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Coach Mike D’Antoni says that Stoudemire can take as much time as he needs to grieve, but Stoudemire is still keeping close tabs on his team. Following the Knicks’ win, he tweeted, “Even though I’m going through hard times right now. #SadDay Great job
tonight team (Knicks ). Jermeny Lin that’s how we play. Ya boy SunTzu.”
