In adorable royal news, Princess Estelle Silvia Ewa Mary is the newest royal in the Swedish family and second in line to the throne. Her grandfather King Carl XVI Gustaf announced the news live on television during a special cabinet meeting.
The little lady, who’s official title is Duchess of Oestergoetland, surprised the country with her name, which is French, not Swedish. Her parents are Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel, her former personal trainer whom she married in June 2010.
The royal birth was celebrated with a 21-gun salute on Skeppsholmen Island, across from the royal palace in Stockholm. Sweden changed their laws back in 1980 to allow the first born child to inherit the throne, regardless of gender. This is the first royal birth in Sweden since Victoria’s sister Madeleine was born in 1982.
