The first round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament definitely did not disappoint. Up until Friday (March 16), only four 15-seeds had ever topped a 2-seed and it hadn’t happened for 11 years – and then we got to see it happen twice in one day. Well done, Norfolk State and Lehigh.
There are some good match-ups for St. Patrick’s Day. Will there be a second-round upset of a 1-seed – it’s not uncommon. If Iowa State plays like they did against UConn, they might have a shot, but the better bet is Syracuse being toppled by K-State. Syracuse almost became the first 1-seed to lose in the first round – thankfully they had the refs there to help them out (/sarcasm).
