Martina Navratilova was the first contestant eliminated from “Dancing With the Stars” and Zap2it got a chance to speak with her backstage at the show. She and partner Tony Dovolani were sad to go, and the other contestants has incredibly kind things to say about her. Particularly Jack Wagner, who told us that he was thrilled to find out that Navratilova was a fellow theater lover and that he and Dovolani had a love of golf in common.
Navratilova says she’s disappointed that she didn’t get to share her personal story in next week’s show. “I just wanted to get to week three so I could show my year 2010, which
is a big struggle year for me. To encourage women to get screened for
breast cancer, because that’s what I got. Now I don’t get to tell my
story. That’s how it goes.”
She missed some steps in her dance and she talks about what went wrong. “Just to make my first step. I had four kicks and I didn’t get them, and
then I got off because it’s so fast. It’s really hard to pick up when
you mess up. And one of the bad habits that I have is that when I messed
up, I stopped in practice. Then Tony said you have to keep going.
Because when you mess up on the tennis court, you stop. You play the
next point. That’s something that I learned a little too late.”
Navratilova thinks the competition will come down to Roshon Fegan and Katherine Jenkins. She also says she’ll continue to dance. “Yes, I’ll continue dancing. I love it. I will continue taking lessons.
I’ve enjoyed being transformed on the show and I enjoy what it does to
my body and my mind, and I will continue.”
We’ll miss you Martina!
