“Desperate Housewives” took a left turn Sunday night (March 11) as it hurtles towards its series finale – it killed off Susan’s long-time love Mike Delfino, gunned down on their porch. To add insult to injury for fans, the death was revealed last week during Nicolette Sheridan’s trial with “Housewives” creator Marc Cherry. Actor James Denton, who plays Delfino, was on “The View” Monday, where he spoke about his end on the show.
“It was kind of sad … my wife called me, she said, ‘I cried,'” says Denton.
“That spectre of always waiting to be killed off on that show [was always there], so it’s funny to make it so close to the end,” he continues. “Honestly, my concern was for Teri [Hatcher] because Susan, I think people really pull for her and want her to be happy. Teri has that great quality that people just want Susan to be happy and now she’s got six episodes of gloom and doom.”
Naturally, since “Desperate Housewives” is a primetime soap, the women of “The View” want to know if he’s really, truly dead. Which he says he is.
“I’m dead. In fact, the next episode is great. It’s the funeral, it’s heartbreaking. But there are some really great flashbacks … people thinking about the ways Mike impacted them,” says Denton.
“Desperate Housewives” airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
