El DeBarge, R&B singer most famous as the front man for sibling group DeBarge, whose biggest hit was the 1985 release “Rhythm of the Night,” was arrested for drug possession in Los Angeles this week, according to TMZ.
The site reports El was picked up in Encino after the LAPD officers observed him taking part in what looked to be a drug deal near the 101 freeway. The police believe El may have been trying to deal, so he was arrested for possession of narcotics with intent to sell. It’s his third arrest for drug possession in the past 11 years.
DeBarge was booked and released on a $30,000 bond. He’s due back in court next month.
El has struggled with drugs for most of his career. He canceled his 2011 tour a little over a year ago in order to enter rehab. He was just coming off two Grammy nominations for his 2010 album “Second Chance.”
