If you’ve been active at all on social media this week, chances are you’ve already seen a friend, colleague, or celebrity spreading the world about Invisible Children’s #StopKony campaign to make war criminal Joseph Kony “famous.”
Former “Veronica Mars” stars Kristen Bell and Ryan Hansen have been longtime supporters of Invisible Children, a charity that seeks to end conflict in Uganda and to raise awareness of LRA rebel leader Kony and his crimes against humanity.
Now, with a viral video that has been viewed over 10 million times in the last two days, they’re joined by a plethora of other movers and shakers who are urging their fans to join the movement.
Celebs who have thrown their support behind Kony 2012 include “Vampire Diaries” stars Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Zach Roerig, and Michael Trevino. We’ve also seen tweets from Aziz Ansari, Sophia Bush, Taylor Swift, Ryan Seacrest, Sean Combs, Rihanna, Zooey Deschanel, Jason Ritter, Justin Bieber, and many, many more of our fave celebrities.
In the midst of the wave of support, Invisible Children has also received significant criticism for their methods and their messaging, which you can read more about in the Washington Post.
The viral video that has inspired so many — from celebrities, to politicians, to average Joes — is below. What do you think of the cause and the methods Invisible Children is using?
