Kirk Cameron irked many during his recent appearance on CNN when he called gay marriage “unnatural” and “destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.” But the man who conducted that interview, Piers Morgan, is on the side of the former “Growing Pains” star…sort of.
“I think that he was pretty brave to say what he said,” Morgan tells TMZ. “I felt that he was honest to what he believes.” Morgan did go on to say that he found Cameron’s opinions “antiquated.”
The furor started when Cameron visited Morgan’s TV talk show on March 2. When the subject of gay marriage came up, the born again Christian says, “Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either.”
These comments drew a quick response from GLAAD.
Herndon Graddick, a senior exec at GLAAD says in a statement, “In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character…Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans, particularly people of faith who believe that their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be loved and accepted based on their character and not condemned because of their sexual orientation.”
So Zappers, should Morgan have been more harsh, or did he say the right thing?
