“Smash” series creator and Broadway veteran Theresa Rebeck will be stepping down as showrunner of the just-renewed series for its second season.
However, she will be staying in the wings as an executive producer for the musical show and could still write episodes in the future. Rebeck penned the series’ first three episodes and is the basis of the show’s character Julia (Debra Messing).
Rebeck, also a Broadway playwright, initially wrote “Smash” for Showtime and then later adapted it for NBC.
“It’s never over till it’s over. And even then,” Rebeck told Zap2it in January about the characters and their journeys. And perhaps this applies to her as well.
