Despite waking from a coma on Sunday (April 22) and showing signs of recovery, doctors for Beee Gees star Robin Gibb confirmed the diagnosis that Gibb is battling colorectal cancer.
In a statement, Dr. Andrew Thillainayagam said Gibb contracted pneumonia after undergoing chemotherapy and two operations. Gibb is reportedly still in intensive care and “exhausted, extremely weak and malnourished.”
“It is testament to Robin’s extraordinary courage, iron will and deep reserves of physical strength that he has overcome quite incredible odds to get where he is now,” reads the statement.
He continues: “Robin’s wife, Dwina and son, Robin-John, his son Spencer and daughter Melissa have been at his bedside every day, talking to him and playing his favorite music to him. They have been tireless in their determination never to give up on him.”
Gibb canceled several appearances in 2011 after falling ill and although he told the BBC he had a growth on his colon that had been removed, his colorectal cancer diagnosis has not been officially stated before.
