In its second week in theaters, Marvel’s “The Avengers” has slowed down considerably, as expected, but despite the fact that everyone in the world saw the movie last week, it’s still holding steady in the top spot.
Early Friday estimates put “The Avengers” at No. 1 with $29.1 million, bringing its estimated total gross to a whopping $299,143,000 in only its second week.
It’s blocking Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s latest collaboration, “Dark Shadows,” from No. 1 — by a long shot. “Dark Shadows,” which was mostly panned by critics, collected a respectable $9.72 million in its opening night, taking the No. 2 spot.
“Think Like A Man” is at No. 3 with $1.5 million, bringing its total to $77,192,000. At No. 4 is Zac Efron’s Nicholas Sparks film, “The Lucky One,” with $1.2 million last night for a $50,966,000 total gross.
In the fifth spot is “The Hunger Games,” which, despite having been in theaters well over a month, is still collecting cash. Katniss, Peeta and the other tributes scored another $1.2 million this week, bringing their gross to $383,702,000.
